THE SEED OF PRAYER

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land

1 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)

This single verse is a whole message. The part that stood out to me is the fact that prayer comes from a point of humility. It comes from an ‘I-don’t-have-it-all-together’ point. You see it takes humility to know that there is absolutely nothing you can do or achieve without the help of God.

After Jesus died and resurrected, the veil that separated us from God was torn, so now we have access to God. We do not need any other mediator to make our case before Him except Jesus Christ. Good news is Jesus is always mediating for us, so at any time you can say that prayer knowing that God will hear you.

We tend to forget about prayer when we feel the most confident. Do you pray when you are fully prepared for an exam or only when you have no idea? Do you pray when you can afford things? Do you pray when you are qualified for the job? Or are you the type that you have given up on prayer because you have prayed a certain prayer consistently and you still did not receive an answer?

Today, I see prayer as a seed and like seeds it gets buried in the ground and we cannot see its effect until it begins to germinate and bear fruits. This process takes time. The word of God admonishes us to pray without ceasing, i.e man is meant to be in a constant state of prayer. This shows that every decision man is supposed to take, man has to ensure he prays first.

Cultivate the habit of prayer, whereby no decision too small or choice too large will be above prayer. This is something you build up with the help of the Holy Spirit. Pray about what to wear, where to school, how to achieve tasks at work, your parents, your hurt, your blessings and definitely the who to marry. God wants us to be men and women of prayer.

If you feel discouraged because you have been praying for a person and over a particular situation and it seems like there is no change, remember that prayer is a seed. It is an investment into eternity and the yield will definitely come to you and in its time. Generations will live to see the effect of your prayer so do not stop. Many fathers of faith prayed for the move of the Spirit we are experiencing today across the world and they did not even live to see it.

There was a time I was praying for a particular person. I had tried different ways of reaching out to her but it was not working. I kept on praying for her even if it seemed like I had no result. Out of nowhere she called me and reached out to me for help. God opened up this person’s heart to me and boy did it take time.

Casting Crowns says ‘every tear I have cried, you (God) hold in your hands’, I can assure you that every prayer, every tear, every fasting you did that you think had no effect God has record of, and one day He will definitely come through.

The way I was praying for someone who had no idea maybe it is the prayers of someone that gave you the strength to pass through all you did. Make those investments too. Pray.

Mumble a prayer when you do not have strength. Say words in your hearts when you cannot speak out, and when you cannot put your pain into words or even thoughts, still sit there in God’s presence because the Holy Spirit makes intercession on our behalves.

God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from-if you want God and are ready to do as He says, the door is open

Acts 20:34,35 (MSG)

God truly plays no favorites. All we have to do is turn away from sin and accept Jesus Christ. A sinner can pray and even get answers by the mercies of God but the only way one can have assurance that God is listening is when one is far from sin. It does not matter who you are, God is angry at sin very single day.

Have you given up on prayer?

Has your prayer altar burnt out?

Do not give up, keep pressing and cultivate the habit of prayer today.

  1. Awesome stuff
This is all we need when we keep pushing and no result in sight but having in mind that God is never late when answering prayers
